Day 1 - Clair Meets Macau And Fell In Love

Oh wow, this is way lonnnnng over due. My bad. Reason? I've been too lazy and I wanna have the inspiration to write about so.....there you go. Oh, and I was thinking if i should post based on locations of the holiday or by day. So I decided - by day it is.

Everyday during the trip, I actually noted down a journal in my phone just so I wont forget what I did and where I go and this is where it comes in handy, for me :)

On 26th October 2010, I flew away to another country for the very first time, well besides Singapore of course. The vacation was a few days after watching Big Bang perform so I didnt feel the excitement at all. I was actually kinda dreading it, especially the early morning flight. I guess the best part of not looking forward to something is the surprisingness of the whole thing. Nais!

So our flight was at 6.30am. Which meant that we had to be at the airport at 4.30am. Which also meant that we gotta leave the house by 4am. Which meant I had to wake up at 3.45am. I slept at 11 something the previous night. FML. I guess the early flight was worth it because as we flew up, I saw this...

After looking at this, I knocked out and woke up only to get an awesome view of this.

I think I slept for about 2 hours? Because the next thing I knew, we arrived!!! First thing that happened when we landed - we forgot to fill up the arrival card thing. We happily lined up, waiting for our turn to get our passports stamped only to find out that we gotta get out of the line and fill up the card, and then line up again. What a start right?

After settling our arrival card hullabaloo, we couldn't find our luggage. Hah!! We waited and waited, watched a few rounds of the same bags passing us by but none of it was ours. Remember how I mentioned earlier that I wasn't feeling the excitement, well, I wasn't even freaking out with the possibility of our bags going missing. All I thought about was if the clothes in Macau can fit me and how cute the security dog was. So in the end, our luggage was kept in the lost and found counter. Apparently we wasted so much time at the check in point. Oops.

We later got into a cab and headed towards out hotel, Hotel Sintra. Here's some good publicity for them - it is beautiful, the staff there are kind, polite and just too nice and its near to everything. The main land of Macau is located directly opposite the airport so we had to cross a bridge to over the other side. duh.

After checking in, the first person we hunted for was Granduncle Lancelot. He is a well known priest in Macau and if you google him, there are articles about him. He is my grandpa (from mom's side) brother. We found his office, which was literally just down the road from our hotel and stayed a bit for a chat. He then decided to take us for a nice buffet lunch at one of the casino hotels there called Star World Hotel together with some of his friends.

One of his staff named Sonny brought us around for a ride in his car and to the Star World place. I think he's like granduncle Lancelot's assistant who brings him around when needed and helps him a lot. I like Sonny and I regret not taking a picture with him. He is the nicest person in Macau I've ever met, the hotel staff comes in second. Haha.

So anyway, the buffet lunch was amazing!! Either because I was uber hungry at the time or I just love buffets/food. Or maybe because its Macau. You know how when you go on holiday, everything there is lovely, even when its not. Granduncle Lancelot and his friends admitted that they liked me because of my eating skills. Now they know how worth it is to take me for buffet. Peace!!

I forgot that people over there dont speak english so I ended up making a sillyness out of me. For the full story, it will be best if i told you face to face. Its funnier. Haha.

Once we were done with lunch, we all headed down to the lobby and what was going on? Dancing performances. This group were dancing latin or salsa whatever.

As we were watching, one of the cute guys (on the far left) suddenly walked up to me and asked me to dance with him. I looked at him in horror and vigorously shook my head. I later regretted my actions. Sigh. But still, a bit weird right? and I was scared and totally caught off guard. To make myself feel better, I made sure I told him 'Sorry....but you're cute :)'

We then said goodbye to granduncle Lancelot and his friends and we were left on our own, to explore Macau!!! From the hotel, we walked and alked and walked without looking at directions. We just walked towards where ever our instinct (okay, more like my dad's) led us to. That was how we came across this building...

Photobucket

Gorgeous lil place, I tell ya. If not mistaken, it is some kinda municipal thing where governmental meetings are held and so on. I think so. I was too busy admiring the place rather than reading descriptions. Heh. Then, we continued walking and walking and walking and walking until we found the Michael Jackson cafe mini museum place!!!!! I got super excited because I read about it somewhere and my parents said NO to visiting that place but since we found it....wooohoooo!!

Photobucket

Excuse the blur picture because my dad doesnt know how to werk the camera. Ha ha!!

One thing about Macau is, no matter where you go and where you get lost to, you will always find your way back just by looking out for a tall building you recognize. Not so scary if you have people with you all the time lah.

As we walked, we noticed there were so many pasar malam stall-like stuff. They sold mainly clothes and then bags, etc but they weren't very nice. Very rare to find something pretty unless to dig hard enough. Walked some more and found more cute eating place, etc.

After walking past so many small stalls, suddenly we stumbled upon this....

What. a. contrast!!! Hahaha.

When night came, we decided to head over to City of Dreams!!! That's where all the uber fancy hotels are at - Venetian, Crown, Hard Rock. Oooh la la. There was a shuttle bus conveniently stationed outside our hotel so we hopped on it and off we went.

Photobucket

This was taken at the entrance of Venetian. So gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!! And I felt like Lee Min Ho was there too, some how. Haha. I even took a picture on a bridge I thought that was part of the Boys Over Flowers show but turned out it wasnt. I didnt find that bridge tho. Grrr. But then again, I love how all the hotels there had a strong perfume smell. Lahvly!!!

Here another snap of the daytime-ish feel of Venetian.

Its so weird, before reaching City Of Dreams, I was energetic and I wasnt tired at all but after checking out everything at City Of Dreams, I instantly felt tired. Maybe because I was satisfied? Indeed, I was :)

From being not that excited, I became more and more excited and just happy to be there and was looking forward to whatever that was to come.

We returned to the hotel past 11pm and all we wanted to do was sleep. It was a longggg day - from 3am up till 11pm plus so it was time to recharge our batteries.

Till meet again, in Day 2 :)
