Anyhoo,
The other day, Jade told me that she started watching the cartoon version of Alice In Wonderland and I responded with a 'I've never seen that before'. What a loser right? I dont even know what the whole story is about. I get confused with Wizard Of Oz. Shocking, but true. To be honest, I dont even know what Beauty and The Beast is all about also.
That was when it struck me that most of the Disney cartoons I've watched while growing up didn't have much to do with princesses, fairytales and fantasies. Those were only what I read in books. My only fave princess story would be Cinderella and that also I only read from books and I watched the live action one, when I was more grown up...like maybe in primary school.
So what Disney cartoons DID I watch while growing up?
#1. Jungle Book - My all time favourite!! My cartoon hero: Mowgli.

This show is funny, scary and sad...all jumbled up in one. As a kid, it was too much to handle lah but I still loved it. The best part was the songs!! Until today, my fave song is Bare Necessities.

The last scene of this cartoon is when Mowgli left Baloo and the panther by following a girl into the village. I remember feeling sad watching that scene because 1) He was leaving his long time freinds!! and 2) I was frikkin curious to see what's in the village and what happens next but no chance because the show ended. Sigh. Haha. All in all, a good show!! I'm hunting high and low for this DVD in those Ah beng's shops but whenever I ask for it, they'll either say 'Hahh?? What is that ahh??' or they would give me the part 2 version. I DONT WANT PART TWO LAHHH!!
#2. Lady and the Tramp. My cartoon hero: Lady.

I think this has to be one of the first ever Disney cartoon I've ever seen and if not mistaken, this was out in 1955. All I can remember from this are the characters like lady, tramp, the old man schnauzer, the two blahdi fugly siamese cats and....a baby. I loved the baby sooo much!! No idea why.
This is also one of the scenes I always remembered.

Damn. cute!!!!!!!
20 years after watching this cartoon as a kid, I decided to rewatch it and I finally understood the storyline. Lady was such an awesome dog. She's pretty, she's caring and she's protective. And she's also a cocker spaniel. Because of her, I cant stop calling my own cocker spaniel, Lady. Hehh. I think this is also why I love dogs so damn much!! *hearties* and hate cats.
#3. Mulan. My cartoon hero: duh...Mulan!

Okay. This has to be my ultimate fave Disney cartoon...ever!!! I used to have the VCR but now, thanks to kick-ass technology, I managed to download it. kekeke. The best part of the movie in my opinion is the match maker part and when the army were still under training. Fuhnee!!.

I cant get over how adorable the cricket and Mulan's dog is. Heck, her grandma is damn cute also lor. I watched the part 2 as well and didnt enjoy it as much. Dunno why. I used to imagine myself as Mulan. Like, if one day all the men were to go protect the country, I would pretend to be a boy and replace my Dad. Of course, knowing me, I wont do such things lah. Not because I dont love my Dad enough but because I'm such a chicken!!! And not outdoor-sy.
I guess my selections of fave childhood Disney cartoons pretty much sums up the person I am today. This is why I love cute animals, dogs and shows with music. Oh, and not forgetting, I enjoyed Sesame Street and Barney too so...yeah, that's why I love shows with singing!!! Think Glee, Hairspray, Mamma Mia....etc!!
Actually, I'm not so sure what I want to prove here lah but I guess its the fact that I am 23 years old this year (and still in denial) and have not seen Alice In Wonderland the cartoon and many many more princess cartoons. I must catch up, seriously. I cant find the DVD with so many princess movies in one disc kind. I want that.
PS: I recently bought Dumbo, the one with the cute elephant. I'm still waiting for that time to watch it. Maybe this weekend :)
